I just woke up a scant three hours ago--exhausted but overall happy because of the Rufus concerts.
Rufus was glorious, and Regina was cute and lovely, though she only played for half an hour. But all the concert-goers were so impressive; all the cool people in New York were in the Beacon the first night, I swear to God. The Beacon Theatre is beautiful by the way, and definitely had a very Rufus vibe to it
Rufus played mostly stuff from his Want albums, as it was his final shows on the Want tour...he also played one older song, Poses, as well as a bunch of new stuff...my favourites of the nights were "Chelsea Hotel" and "Between my Legs," though I enjoyed the usual Beautiful Child, 14th Street, The One You Love, and so on. O0o0h, And he gave us a divine vision of the gay messiah himself, donning a blue toga, crown of thorns, sparkly masquerade mask, and rhinestone bracelets and then being "crucified" on a white deco cross. lovely.
The first night, we were in the top balcony in the way back, it was so surreal, the show was like a miniature charade. Last night, however, Mel and I got closer than our seats would allow by sitting on the steps of a side door exit, which gave us the view of perhaps an H-row Orchestra seat. It was fantastic, and definitely made the show more fun...though my camera unexpectedly ran out of film before the best songs and the sillyness ensued, which significantly dampened the evening. However, I'd still say, of course, that the two concerts all in all made for a spectacular Want tour finale. Oh, Rufus!
