When I'm done having seizures of joy and regain my motor skills, I will continue typing.....
................
....okay. I'm back. Gotta type fast, before the next seizure comes on.
Rufus Wainwright is a musician whom I love. I own three of his four albums, and he's astounding. Elton John calls him the best songwriter of our generation; Keane says he is divine. Need I go on? The point is, he is amazing. I listen to his CDs very, very frequently. Especially Poses, as I just recently got that one.
At a party yesterday, my 3rd-or-so cousin was talking to me about music, and I mentioned buying a Wainwright album recently. He told me about how he saw Wainwright in the UK playing at a restaurant about a month ago on a business trip. I thought that was cool enough already, and then he dropped the big one. And I almost died.
Turns out that Rufus Wainwright played at my 4th-or-so cousin Kathy's wedding some 15 years ago. What's more, Rufus went to the school that Kathy taught at. I went home and talked to my mom about it and she told me that Kathy taught at a New England boarding school...according to his bio, Rufus went to a New England boarding school. It was all validated! My parents went to the wedding and everything! I think this is uber-cool; I mean, I knew Rufus was from around where I was born; he grew up in Rhinebeck, NY...I go up there every year with the family to get our Christmas tree (haha...such a coincidence)...but this is just too awesome.
I think that if I write to Rufus with this story behind it, along with a lot of humour and self-revelation, I can meet him somehow. I think there's a pretty good chance...he lives in Manhattan, I think.
That would be so cool. I'll be sure to keep you all informed about what happens!
