Yesterday, I was all excited as I had gotten my working papers. I called my to-be manager, at which point she regretted to inform me that she called Human Resources for Pier One and they told her that the minimum hiring age was 16. She told me she was really upset because she was excited to have me as a "part of the team," and told me that she'd probably hire me next year, provided they are looking and I apply.
After that letdown, I immediately went job hunting...Starbucks, Bed Bath and Beyond, David Witchell's (local salon)....all need to be at least 16 or 18 to work there... :'( I went to Five Below, and the teenyboppers were too insane to even locate the applications; that's probably for the best though. I could never tolerate the screamo-teen level in there. Ick.
Oh, and the dude at Starbucks told me the local warehouse is hiring at 14. Eew.
After that episode, I went home and ate a big thing of macaroni and cheese, a pint of fudge swirl ice cream, and threw my Pier One Sales Associate Handbook against things for a while.
I'm still getting over it, but don't worry, I'll be ok :)
