Happy Saint Patrick's Day, everyone! Today's one of my favourite holidays. My other one is Samhain, an actual Celtic holiday (aka Halloween...candy, Celts, candles, what more can one ask for??) Today, I listened to Loreena McKennitt, wore all of my Celtic garb--Additionally, I ate mint-flavoured things (I dunno, I always connect St. Patrick's Day with mint...) and caught up on my Ogham. I plan on baking soda bread next week, as I forgot ::GASP:: to get the ingredients on Monday. Oh well...
I'm glad St. Patrick's Day came around; I really got to reconnect with my origin. I always used to really love Irish traditions, music, etc. but lately I've forgotten about it. Slowly, everything is resurfacing and I am re-identifying as a member of the tribe of Hibernia.
Ah, Saint Patrick...came to our aisle, spead his religion. Lots of the history books say he converted Ireland lol. They tend to leave out the fact that the old ways never really died. You see, Saint Patrick didn't oust the religion that preexisted; he merely integrated Christiainity. He never destroyed the Druids as some texts claim; in fact, the Druids, the ruling and priestly class of ancient Ireland, Gaul, and so on, were never defeated really; they just faded into the background, leaving their remnants in modern-day Irish Catholicism. Ireland is unique in that it is the one place that was touched by Christian missionaries but never really converted. Thank Cernunnos! :P
Anyway, Loreena McKennitt's "The Mummers' Dance" is on right now, so I must leave you. My heart is beating to the drumming of the waves upon the shores of Eire...
