Yum. I'm drinking a delicious, sweet, orange, autumnal pumpkin smoothie. It's having a calming effect on me, which I guess is good since I was hyper tonight. Me, Caitlin, and Maria went to the SAS Winter Concert. They played Russian Sailor's Dance (!), Canon (!!!), Under the Sea (!!!!!), and...Colors of the Wind!!!!!!!
::clarinet intro::
You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grins?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends
How high does the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the Earth and still
All you'll own is Earth until

You can paint with all the colors of the wiiiiind.

The performance tonight was really emotional for me (for all three of us, really), but like always, I felt rather removed. Cailtin felt some closure, which I guess is good. I'm just really really disappointed that we didn't go up and play along with them! Mr. Neukum even suggested in hindsight that we do it! :(

I'm really sad that I am not in band in high school. I was never super-good, mostly because I didn't apply myself that much. But I do have a ton of memories: the bunjee-jumping spitrag, walking through the empty gym every Wednesday morning, getting up "early" for band practice, all the Neshaminy Mall Trips !!!, Paul Lavender, "amateurs", Can You Feel the Love Tonight/SAS'04, Mr. Hacket, crazy subs, and dozens of others I'm forgetting right now.

Oh well, life goes on. I'm happy I went tonight, though. The band was fantastic, and they made me want to take up clarinet again. I brought a vegan chocolate bar and the three of us all ate it....big mistake! Caitlin and I were unimaginably über-hyper beyond anything you could imagine. I wove in and out on the main bar in front of SAS and hit my "bum" on the concrete, we bounced around and headbanged in the car, laughed uncontrollably, snorted, and made unintentional Furby noises. We wrote odd words on the fogged-up windows, and tried to stargaze from the back by shoving our heads up against the glass. Chocolate really is a magical thing...
