08 December 2004

Had off from school today because it is the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary today. So, I woke up at 10.30 this morning, thinking "Wow, how great is this? I'm awake, not tired, and no one is yelling. And I'm not blinded by the morning light." I proceeded to take a relaxing, not rushed, shower, another nice break from routine. I drove (or rather was driven) to the bank, picked up a few bucks, and then went to the mall with Caitlin. The first thing we did was get fruit-oriented food items:-P I got a mango water ice and she got a peach smoothie. We sat down and started talking about school and such, and we found that everyone we saw were people we knew, oddly enough. Alison L, Colleen N, Dominic A, Kelly M, Andrew S, a ton of girls I don't know from ND, and so on. It was crazy, and we both didn't like it XD. We both said at the same time, "We should've gone to New Hope...." But all in all it was fun; we got into a conversation about me being vegan--I said if I went to Europe, I'd probably choose to break my vegan ethics; I mean, what's Italy without Romano, France without ommelette, Belgium without waffle (you get the picture). I wouldn't choose to eat flesh again, though. Alone, it is a dilemna, but it also brings up a recurring theme; slippery slope. I saw in Williams-Sonoma 99.9% vegan espresso beans covered in dark chocolate; they just had confectioners' glaze, made from insect wings and beeswax, on them. I figured I'd just get 'em, but I mentioned that it may mean if I let a little thing slip, it might evolve, i.e. I'd eat a little piece of something with some egg in it, then I'd eat snippets of cheese, and spiral back to Sqaure One from there. Caitlin, whereupon hearing this, screamed out, "No Geoff! Don't eat dairy products! Stick to your vegan principles! It's a good thing you are doing!" So this situation is slippery indeed....I don't want to violate my ethics, but I don't want to miss out. It is a very very entangling situation, to say the least.

But anyway, back to my day, we went to a gallery-store and critiqued different pieces, we went to Bath and Body Works and smelled Peppermint Body Wash and White Clover Home Fragrance. We also went to Hot Topic, and Caitlin got an über-awesome shirt; it is a white shirt with a blown up, abstract image of a woman's face on it....its utterly amazing. Oh, and we went to a photo-booth and took some shots (I tried to post them but it just wouldn't work)--Anecdote: on my way out, I stepped on/knocked over Caitlin's iced tea in styrofoam cup, and it spilled everywhere. We took turns running across the mall to steal napkins from Friendly's while a nun watched and laughed. true story. Swear to god.

Well, I got to go finish homework, tidy up my room, and catch up on "things" in general.
