Somehow, you have stumbled upon the dark corner of the internet known as Geoff's blog. I'm Geoff, and this is the aforementioned blog. Perhaps you were on the main site, Blogger.com, and you clicked a link accidentally, maybe you were Googling and something went horribly wrong, or perhaps you even came here intentionally. (::gasp!::) Whatever the case, the point is that you are here, so why not stick around? I'll be making a general likes/dislikes entry soon. You can use that to determine if you like/dislike me :)

Maybe a little self-description could help you better identify just who this "Geoff" person is that everyone is undoubtedly talking about all of the time. I am a teenager living in a small rural suburban community just North of Philadelphia. I am male, if you haven't gathered that yet. I attend Holy Ghost Preparatory School on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thurdsay, and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday I get to live the rest of my life. (Doesn't that ratio seem a bit disproportionate to you? It sure does to me.)

I am also a vegan. Here's the lowdown on that transition. ahem...

Geoff's Fantasic Journey to Veganism
I've always been interested in vegetarianism, and I've always respected vegetarians, but I also always loved meat and thought it was natural to consume it. I can remember one time, when I went to a party in June 2004, my good friend Caitlin, who is a pollotarian, didn't eat the hamburgers they were serving. I was fascinated, to say the least. A real, live (almost) vegetarian, right in front of me. Naturally, I bombarded her with tons of questions, and eventually "won" the conversation. That day, I thought I had vanquished the concept of vegetarianism from my brain once and for all; I mean, I won the "meat-no meat" argument, right? Well, I kept on eating meat all through that summer, without giving it a second thought. That is, until I went to Florida.
Ah, Florida, so nice. The weather, the scenery, the beach! Oh, the beach! So nice...that is, until people start murdering others. Then it's not-so-nice. We were collecting shells in the ocean, laughing, and having a good time in general. My cousin finds a beautiful conchesque shell, but finds that someone is living in it. I just mumbled some derivative of "aww...too bad" and continued shell-searching, assuming he would have the common decency to return the being to its natural home. But no, he decides to put the little guy on the hot sand, to let the sun dry him out and kill him. All because he wants a shell. This kid is valuing personal possessions over someone's life. I was appalled, and was determined to liberate the poor animal. My aunt commanded me not to because "it was his shell," and I obeyed out of fear of punishement. (Of course, if it happened again this summer, I would have definitely freed it; a little yelling is certainly worth saving something's life to me) This ordeal thrust me into a mental debate over animal rights, which I thought about throughout my days in Florida. That night, I still went out to dinner and ate dead flesh and other animal products. But the seed of AR Veganism was planted.
Soonafter, I became a vegan. I went on the diet pretty much cold tofurkey. There was a teeny, tiny transition period from November to January, but after that I was totally vegan. (I put my conversion date at January 1, 2004 for my own convenience, and also for the symbolic meaning of that date.)
So that's my story. I've been a vegan for almost a year now, and have yet to waver in my beliefs.

Of course, I also do lots of other things besides eat vegan food =D. I enjoy music, cooking vegan food (lol), debating, bonsai, lighting candles and burning incense, going places with friends, going to the beach, and many many other things. I am also very politically opinionated. My poltical compass hovers somewhere around:

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.50
Economic Left/Right: -7.50

I could take up a whole new, huge entry regarding my various stances, and maybe I'll make one sometime, but not now.

Okay, this intro entry is very long. I could keep on writing, but to make it easier on everyone, I'll partition it into multiple, easy-to-digest mini-entries.

Until next time!

Oh yeah, this blog service doesn't have those neat "current mood" and "current music" bars at the bottom, so I need to add those in. (Sadly, the animated heads cannot be added to my current knowledge :'[ )

Current Mood: optimistic
Current Tunes: DMB, "Everyday" album
